Saturday Afternoon Ponderables

"When the mind is the master, you live in a hell. When you are the master of your mind, you live in the land of the Buddhas. Mind creates all delusion."

--Bodhidharma
"Mind is interested in what happens, while Awareness is interested in the mind itself. The child is after the toy, but the mother watches the child, not the toy."

--Nisargadatta Maharaj "Awareness is our true self; it’s what we are. So we don’t have to try to develop awareness; we simply need to notice how we block awareness with our thoughts, our fantasies, our opinions, and our judgments. We’re either in awareness, which is our natural state, or we’re doing something else."

--Joko Beck
"Most of the shadows of this life are caused by standing in one’s own sunshine."

--Ralph Waldo Emerson
